Nosocomial Surveillance

Recognizing the need to prevent antibiotic resistance in the wards, INTROP evaluates and approves ICC (Infection Control Committee) requests for restricted antibiotics for all pediatric patients in the hospital. Monitoring and reporting of the nosocomial infection rates, top nosocomial pathogens, and the sensitivity and resistance patterns of the antibiotics for these pathogens per ward. The section then recommends monthly empiric treatment in each ward. The Section likewise investigates outbreaks, incoordination with the microbiology laboratory and the Infection Control Committee thus providing recommendations based on the results of the investigation. Hospital infection control workshops (e.g. orientation of residents and students on proper asepsis techniques in hospital procedures, etc) are also being conducted yearly.
